Age Verification on Twitch

Age verification helps us comply with local laws and create a safe, age-appropriate experience on Twitch. In some regions, you may need to verify your age using facial age estimation technology. This quick, one-time process helps keep our community safe.

How to Complete Age Verification

To comply with local laws, Twitch has minimum age requirements that vary by region. When you sign up, you need to provide your birth date. If you don't meet the minimum age for your region, you won't be able to create an account. Learn more.

In some regions, we use on-device facial age estimation technology to verify your age.

When You'll Need to Verify Your Age

  • Creating a New Account: If you're in an affected region, you'll need to verify your age when signing up.
  • Logging In: Existing users in affected regions may be prompted to verify their age when logging in.

How to Complete Verification

Step 1: When prompted, you'll see a "Verify Your Age" screen explaining the requirement.

Step 2: Complete the face scan by:

  • Allowing camera access when prompted
  • Ensuring you're in a well-lit area
  • Removing headwear that covers your face
  • Keeping glasses on if you normally wear them
  • Following on-screen instructions for the scan

Step 3: Receive confirmation of your verification status and proceed with your Twitch experience.

NOTE: To protect your privacy, Twitch and k-ID (a third-party vendor we partner with to verify your age) do not store your face scan video selfies. The video selfie used for facial age estimation is analyzed entirely on your device and will never leave it. The information you provide will be used solely for age verification purposes and will not be used for anything else.

Age Verification Troubleshooting

If you experience a technical issue with the face scan:

  • Ensure you're in good lighting conditions
  • Check that your camera is working properly
  • Remove face coverings or accessories that might interfere
  • Try again in a different location with better lighting

If you need further assistance, please contact k-ID Support, or consult their Age Verification help resources here.

NOTE: For security reasons, verification attempts are limited daily. If you exceed the limit, wait 24 hours before trying again.
